As Valentine’s Day approaches, many singles might consider turning to dating apps to find love.

However, with so many options available, it can be overwhelming to choose the right one.

From well-known apps like Tinder and Bumble to niche platforms like Singles With Food Allergies, the variety can make decision-making challenging.

To help navigate this landscape, Ofcom has released new data highlighting the most popular dating apps among different age groups in Britain.

Whether you’re a Gen Z, a Millennial, or even a Silver Fox, this information can guide you to where your peers are searching for connections.

The Most Popular Dating Apps in the UK

According to Ofcom’s Online Nations report, which analyzed user numbers in May 2023, dating apps are no longer taboo, with over 11% of UK adults using these services to find love.

Men seem to be more active on these platforms, accounting for 61% of overall visitors compared to 38% for women.

Tinder leads the pack as the most popular dating app in the UK, boasting 2.49 million users.

It is followed by Hinge with 1.51 million users, Bumble with 1.44 million users, Grindr with 924,000 users, and Plenty of Fish with 625,000 users.

The data reveals significant variations in dating app usage across age groups. Among 18-24-year-olds, Hinge is the preferred platform, with 28% of users in this age group. Tinder closely follows with 24% of users.

Young Millennials (25-34-year-olds) also favor Hinge, with 45% of users within this cohort.

Bumble is the next popular choice (43%), followed by Squirt (38%), Tinder (37%), and Grindr (37%).

For older Millennials (34-44-year-olds), Happn (38%) and Plenty of Fish (29%) are the go-to options, while Badoo is favored by those aged 45-54.

Interestingly, individuals aged 55-64 constitute 15% of users on PURE Hookup, while those aged 65+ prefer Grindr. Ofcom noted that “OurTime – a dating service for the over-50s – unsurprisingly has users mostly aged over 55 at 63%,” adding that “Grindr is the most popular dating service for this age group overall.”

The findings from Ofcom’s report offer valuable insights for those navigating the world of online dating, providing a glimpse into the preferences of different age groups and highlighting the diversity of platforms available to suit varying needs and preferences.
