New crowd reporter website launched to enable Severn Valley residents share details of flooding in their communities

The Environment Agency has launched a new crowd reporter website to allow residents in the Severn Valley to share information about flooding in their neighborhoods.

The Crowd Reporter from the Severn Valley Water Management Scheme (SVWMS) is a crowd-sourced mapping tool that can be used to submit descriptions and photos of localized flooding.

Residents are encouraged to use the tool to assist the Environment Agency in constructing a detailed map of where flooding occurs throughout the Severn Valley catchment.

Users can also submit suggestions for future projects, local or historical landmarks, and any other general comments about the project.

The information will be used in the Severn Valley Water Management Scheme, which aims to reduce flooding in Severn Valley communities.

By clicking on a location and entering a description, users can submit information, photographs, or drawings. There are no restrictions on the number of submissions that can be made or the date that the flood occurred.

The Environment Agency’s Place Manager for Shropshire, Adam Lines, said:

“Local people who live in the community are best placed to know where flooding occurs and any local concerns or opportunities, which is why we are asking for their help by sharing information that will help us to design nature-based flood management schemes to tackle flooding.

“The tool is a quick and easy way for us to collect data from the community and use it to build into the Severn Valley Water Management Project.”
