Elon Musk has met with Senator Chuck Schumer to discuss the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the US.

The Tesla and Twitter CEO tweeted that he and “many members of Congress” talked about AI regulation.

Schumer told CNN that the meeting was “very good” and that he had drawn up a “framework” to prevent damage to the country.

In a tweet, Musk warned that AI has “great power to good and evil”, and called for better AI, saying that “that which affects safety of the public has, over time, become regulated to ensure that companies do not cut corners”.

The meeting between Musk and Schumer comes after Musk co-signed an open letter in March, in which he and other tech leaders called for the halt of training advanced AI systems.

The letter warned that AI labs are in an “out-of-control” race and asked if we should “risk loss of control of our civilisation”.

It called for a stop to the training of AI systems “more powerful than GPT-4” and for governments to take action if tech companies do not follow suit.

As AI grows increasingly sophisticated, regulation is becoming more necessary.

There are concerns that AI could be used for malicious purposes, particularly if developed by authoritarian regimes or terrorist groups.

It is important that AI is developed in an ethical and responsible way, with regulations in place to ensure that it does not cause harm.

The fact that Musk and other tech leaders are calling for regulation is a positive step towards ensuring that AI is developed in a way that benefits society as a whole.
