Murder charge against 10 years old Florida girl

After reportedly shooting and killing a woman in the head who was involved in an argument with her mother, a 10-year-old girl in Orlando was arrested on a murder charge and said, “you shouldn’t have messed with my mother.”

The unnamed kid was apprehended on Tuesday, more than a week after investigators say she killed Lashun Rodgers, 41, on Memorial Day.
Last week, the girl’s mother, Lakrisha Isaac, 31, and Lashun Denise Rodgers, 41, got into a violent altercation outside the Jernigan Gardens Apartments in Orlando, Florida, according to Orlando Police.

According to authorities, the mother handed her daughter a bag containing a revolver, and the youngster took the gun out and fired two shots, striking Rodgers. Rodgers was found with a ‘gunshot wound to the head,’ according to authorities.

After firing the shot, the girl allegedly said, “You shouldn’t have interfered with my mother,” according to WESH.

Rodgers was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead, according to authorities.
The girl is charged with second-degree murder, according to the Orlando Police Department. She was apprehended and brought to a nearby Juvenile Justice Center.

According to authorities, the girl’s mother was detained last week on counts of culpable negligence manslaughter, child neglect, careless storage of a handgun, and aggravated assault with a firearm.

The mother was assigned an attorney from the public defender’s office, according to online records, but no further information was supplied.

On Tuesday, family and friends gathered outside the Orlando apartment complex to mourn the victim.

Stacey Johnson, the victim’s best friend, told WESH, “I can’t emphasize it enough, that was a wonderful woman.” ‘I have nothing negative to say about her. Her spirit, as well as her wit. Oh, my goodness. ‘Her spirit was incredible.’

‘It’s just so tragic that she died as a result of this stupid event,’ Amber Dozier said. ‘She wasn’t deserving of it in the least. She’s not like that, and she doesn’t get involved in this sort of thing.’

Regina Hill, the mayor of Orlando, stated that state and federal lawmakers must act to combat gun violence, and that she is launching a new initiative in the city. Rodgers, she continued, was an active parent who frequently volunteered for school activities.

‘I have a number of people that knew both the little girl and (Rodgers) intimately,’ Hill added. ‘And everyone’s heart is broken,’ says the narrator.

‘We were able to receive nearly $2 million+ to launch a Violence Interrupted program that focuses on mental health and gun violence,’ she said.

Monique Worrell of the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office called the case “one of the most terrible” she’d ever seen, and said “no charging decision has been made.”

‘Our office has begun the process of investigating this case, and when making a charging decision, we will examine all of the facts, including the child’s age and all of the surrounding circumstances,’ Worrell’s office said in a statement.

‘We want to be clear that our office has not made any billing decisions.’ However, we expect that whatever charges we file, if any, will guarantee that she receives the required interventions to address her conduct, assist her in changing and growing, and protect the public’s safety in the future.

We want the people to understand that, no matter how you feel about this tragedy, this is still a child.’
