Mthandazo Gatya’s ‘Nervous’ draws John Legend’s attention

There is no doubting social media’s influence. Whatever you may think of these time-consuming applications, some life-altering events do occur on them.

People are now closer to one another because to social media, which has made relationships simple. Mthandazo Gatya, a singer, recently had good success when he took part in the #OpenVerseChallenge on TikTok.

The brand-new John Legend song “Nervous” from his album “Legend” has been given an African twist by Gatya. Many fans double-tapped the duet video to express their admiration for it. The US singer was also drawn to it and commented in the comments area.

Legend expressed his opinion on Gatya’s lyrics with three fire emojis in his reply. The singer expressed his appreciation to everyone who helped guarantee that Legend watched his duet on Twitter.

He tweeted, “Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart for making sure John Legend sees my duet, excellent news is that he liked it and answered, as to what will happen next, we can leave that to God.

The platinum-selling singer provided further details about the incident and his feelings over receiving a response from Legend personally in an interview with IOL Entertainment.

“From someone who has long been a fan of John Legend to suddenly catching his eye. It would be a dream come true to even collaborate on a song with him. Over the moon with joy.

Gatya said that his group was working hard to make progress that may lead to him and the artist working together in the future. Who knows, maybe the two artists will really work together.

Gatya received a nomination for his song “Senzeni” in the category record of the year at the 27th SA Music Awards in 2021. The song was a hit, and TruFm even named it the song of the year for 2020.

Additionally, it was on the radio stations Metro FM, Radio2000, and Umhlobo Wenene charts.

“People know the song, but I believe it’s my face that they don’t know because sometimes, I catch people rocking to my music without realising it’s me. People are aware of my music, not only “Senzeni,” but also of other songs, he said. However, they are unaware of his face.

Gatya said that he has been producing material and attempting to make it possible for people to recognise the artist behind the music they have come to adore.

He released his EP “Journey To Infinity” this month.

“I feel that it’s difficult for me to categorise my style of music,” he said. I’m a fan of music that uplifts and inspires others. I prefer music that touches the soul to music that becomes unpopular a few months after it becomes popular.

“On the EP, there are only songs that will get you up and dancing while still conveying a good message. The songs I write have a dancing beat, but they also have an African aspect and a message.

“I even went so far as to work with Nigerian musician Chukido because I wanted to connect with certain African cultures. Afropop and Afrohouse are blended with mostly African sounds.

Gatya and Legend’s duet video has 1.2 million likes on TikTok, and Legend has one of those likes.

Superstar DJ Black Coffee was also drawn to the video on Twitter and was even open to the notion of creating a musical arrangement for a fantasy duet.
