Miss Wales describes her recovery experience after surviving an M4 crash in January

Darcey Corria, Miss Wales 2021, has described the events of a serious car accident that occurred on January 19th.

The 21-year-old beauty queen from Barry was travelling home from Swansea when she skidded on ice and hit the central reservation on the M4 eastbound near Bridgend.

As she was trying to exit the car, she was hit by another car, causing her to break bones in her neck and pelvis and suffer facial wounds.

She spent over two weeks at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff before being discharged.

Darcey’s recovery has been slow, with some days feeling more fatigued than others.

She is still receiving care and treatment as an outpatient.

Mentally, the experience has been challenging as well, especially since it has forced her to slow down and be more aware of the challenges faced by people with disabilities.

Despite the difficulties, Darcey is determined to continue representing Wales at the Miss World competition this year.

She also plans to volunteer in Africa before the competition and has received overwhelming support from family, friends, and strangers.

The experience has taught her the preciousness of life and the strength and fragility of the human body.
