Miranda Hughes claims she’s fired for suggesting Tory voters ‘don’t deserve resuscitation’

A nurse who generated outrage by proclaiming on live national television, “If you voted Conservative, you don’t deserve to be resuscitated by the NHS,” claimed today that her problem is that she “cares too much.”

Former NHS nurse Miranda Hughes, 46, made the incendiary remarks about the healthcare system during a live TV debate on Channel 5 on Monday
Miranda Hughes, 46, a former NHS nurse, made the inflammatory statements against the healthcare system during a live Channel 5 television debate on Monday.

The offensive remarks provoked an outcry on social media, with Twitter users urging she be fired for her ‘disgusting’ remark.

Others demanded that the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the national nursing authority, investigate Ms. Hughes, a former NHS nurse who now works in the private sector and resides in Hampshire.

Ms. Hughes, who criticized Brexit as “absurd” and “embarrassing” in a prior broadcast appearance, believes she now faces termination for violating her company’s media policy.Miranda Hughes claims she’s fired for suggesting Tory voters ‘don’t deserve resuscitation’

She has placed the finger of blame at the ‘Twitterati,’ who she claims have “gone to town” on her since the live broadcast.

She claims she “lost her temper” prior to the remarks, which she now acknowledges were “inappropriate.”

She told the Daily Telegraph, “Now I am likely to lose my job because the Twitterati have gone to town.”

I am being demonized for being a monster who doesn’t care, but the problem is that I care too much.

Miranda Hughes, 46, a former NHS nurse, made the inflammatory statements against the healthcare system during a live Channel 5 television debate on Monday.

Mrs. Hughes is a former NHS nurse who now works in the private sector in Hampshire.

Her comments about the NHS were made earlier this week on Jeremy Vine’s ‘Britain on the Brink’ live debate.

“The reason I enrolled in the program was due to the impossibility of patient care.Last night the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the independent regulator for nurses, and nursing associates, today said it had been made aware of the comments

It bothers me to no end that I can’t do the right thing because I’ve been sick, I’ve had to watch people die, and there are no resources to help.

Her comments about the NHS were made on Jeremy Vine’s ‘Britain on the Brink’ live debate earlier this week.

Ms. Hughes, who now works in the private sector, recanted her incendiary words after being questioned about them, stating, “No, of course I would, of course I would.”

However, her initial remarks sparked outrage online, with some calling them “disgusting” and “bigoted.”The outburst comes after self-proclaimed 'Anti-Tory' Ms Hughes also slammed Brexit as 'absurd' and 'embarrassing' during a previous rant on BBC Question Time (pictured)

Others noted that more than 14 million individuals voted for the Conservatives in the 2019 General Election.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the independent regulatory body for nurses and nursing associates, confirmed today that it had been made aware of the statements yesterday night.

A spokeswoman stated, “We have observed numerous tweets regarding a television comment made yesterday.”

“Our Code makes it crystal clear that professionals on our register must always encourage professionalism and trust.”

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the independent regulator for nurses and nursing associates, announced last night that it had been informed of the comments.

When concerns are brought to our attention, we will always investigate and consider taking action if necessary.

Ms. Hughes labels herself as “European” on Twitter. Anti-Tory. Nurse. Mum. Cat appreciator. Amdram queen. Last night, a’repeat dieter and foodie’ said she would be terminated from her current position for violating social media standards.

She currently works for a private healthcare and rehabilitation service in south London.

When asked by the Telegraph if she risked termination, she responded, “I have dragged the company into disrepute, so yes, I will be fired.”

In 2020, Mrs. Hughes retired from a frontline nursing position. She worked as a trainer for the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust, but according to the trust, she is no longer affiliated with them.

Ms. Hughes made these remarks as she discussed her decision to leave the NHS for the private sector with host Jeremy Vine.

She stated, “I could not manage the emotional strain of being unable to help my patients.”

The outburst follows self-proclaimed ‘Anti-Tory’ rhetoric. Ms. Hughes criticized Brexit as “ridiculous” and “embarrassing” during a prior BBC Question Time rant (pictured)

“When you become a nurse, you commit to putting the patient first in all you do.

You are overburdened to the point where you cannot treat others as you ought to.

“And it consumes you because you are there to perform a caring job but there are no resources.”

As her wrath grew, she continued: ‘And you hear again on the television that care facilities are being ring-fenced, but it’s a lie.’

“Unfortunately, if you voted for the Conservative Party, you do not deserve to be revived by the NHS.

“I understand it was harsh, I understand that was cruel, but looking at these gentlemen has made me so upset.

When asked by broadcaster Jeremy Vine if she meant what she said, she responded, “No, of course I would, of course I would.”

But the manner in which we have been treated is abhorrent. Every nurse has received a slap in the face.

Today, her remarks have provoked an internet reaction, with individuals labeling her views as “bigotry.”

In the meantime, a person who knows Ms. Hughes told MailOnline that she may have let her emotions to get the best of her.

The companion stated, “She probably got carried away, but what she said was awful.”

Colin Brazier, a former Sky and GB News presenter, provided one of the comments. He wrote on Twitter, “It’s not appropriate to trot out the ‘… Too sometimes, “all that is required for evil to prevail is for decent men to do nothing.”

“But actually. Saying that Tory voters should not be resuscitated if necessary in a hospital violates multiple lines.

David Atherton, a self-described Libertarian and former contributor to the right-wing website Breitbart, tweeted: “Left-wing nurse Miranda Hughes claimed on Channel 5’s “Britain on the Brink” last night that “Tories don’t deserve to be revived.”

Have you heard of Miranda Hughes?

My email address is james.robinson@mailonline.co.uk.

I believed that the phrase “never kissed a Tory” was sufficiently bigoted.

Iain Gall, a Scottish Conservative councillor, responded to the video by tweeting, “I, along with 13,966,454 others, voted conservative in the 2019 general election.

Without a certain, this jerk has #bekind in her bio.

It follows a wave of criticism directed against Labour MPs and campaigners in response to anti-Tory statements.

Earlier this year, Labour front-bencher Lucy Powell was accused of sowing discord after appearing in a T-shirt that stated she had “never kissed a Tory.”

After being photographed wearing the T-shirt at the Manchester Pride march, the party’s culture representative was ordered to “grow up.”

Allies of the Labour Party, however, said that the controversy over the T-shirt, which has become popular in some Left-wing groups, was an attempt to divert attention from the cost-of-living crisis.

Chris Clarkson, Conservative Member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton, described the shirt as “puerile, divisive, and entirely contrary to the ethos of inclusion that Pride is meant to exemplify.” “Grow up!”

This is the issue, added Hyndburn and Haslingden representative Sara Britcliffe. Creating a us versus them dynamic. Very offensive coming from a shadow minister.

The party’s cultural spokesman, Ms. Powell, was advised to “grow up” after she was photographed wearing the T-shirt at this weekend’s Manchester Pride march.

A divergence in political opinions should not result in hostility.

The Conservative representative Dehenna Davison, who came out as bisexual last year, deemed the stunt to be infantile.

A source close to Mrs. Powell said last night: ‘While the Conservatives are fixated on a T-shirt worn to a Pride event in Manchester this weekend – a T-shirt worn by Labour at all Prides for over a decade to much applause from the crowds – millions of families and pensioners are worried sick about paying their energy bills this winter.’

Angela Rayner, the deputy leader of Labour, was criticized for referring to Conservatives as “scum” during a fringe discussion at Labour’s party conference in Brighton last year.

She stated, “We cannot get any worse than this homophobic, racist, misogynistic, banana republic, filthy, nasty, Etonian piece of filth.”

She afterwards ‘unreservedly’ apologized for the statements and stated that she had’reflected’ on the tone of political discourse in the wake of the assassination of Conservative MP Sir David Amess last October and would no again use such language.
