The Minnesota mother found guilty of murdering her 6-year-old son was sentenced to life in prison, but not before expressing her emotions to the court.

“I’m innocent. F—k you all. You’re garbage. During her sentence hearing on Thursday, Julissa Thaler replied, “That is all your honor”

In May 2022, Thaler was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder for the death of her son, Eli Hart.

According to Law and Crime Network, prosecutors allege that Thaler, who had been awarded sole custody of the youngster, shot Eli nine times with a shotgun.

“I’m not sure if that’s appropriate here, Ms. Thaler,” remarked Hennepin County District Court Judge Jay Quam of the outburst.

“I apologize for telling you what someone else cannot,” Thaler, age 29, responded.

Quam began reading Thaler’s sentence by stating, “Losing a child seems to be the worst thing that can happen to a parent. It’s worst when your child is taken from you by someone other than a disease or an accident, such as cancer or an accident.

“What I cannot fathom, and what no one can fathom, is that the person who takes the child from the world is the person who brought the child into the world,” Quam continued.

“Nothing I could do would rectify this situation. When sentencing Thaler to life in prison without the possibility of release, the judge stated, “Nothing I could do would alleviate the pain you caused by doing that.”

During Quam’s reading, Thaler leaned back in her chair, rested her head on her palm, and gazed at the floor. She appeared to give the judge and audience the middle finger as she was led out the courthouse.

On 19 May 2022, Orono police made initial contact with Thaler after receiving reports of a vehicle without a spare tire and a broken rear windshield. During the traffic stop, Thaler was discovered with meat fragments on her body and blood in her vehicle.

According to documents obtained by KMSP at the time, Thaler claimed the blood was from a tampon and the deer flesh was from a deer she purchased from a butcher.

The police took Thaler home after 30 minutes, and it wasn’t until then that they discovered Hart’s body in the trunk of the car alongside the alleged murder weapon, a shotgun.

Thaler had recently gained sole custody of her son ten days before to his passing. Tony Hart, Eli’s father, had repeatedly complained to the courts about Thaler’s history of drug usage and mental health issues, but his complaints were dismissed.

Tony Hart has filed a case for wrongful death against the Dakota County employees who awarded Thaler custody. The lawsuit will be heard by a federal court in 2024, according to CBSNews.
