Minister sends condolences to the family of slain Mamelodi student

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, has sent his condolences to the family of a student who was fatally stabbed on his way home from a learning centre.

During a heist, Mabutho Jenamo, a student at the Reneilwe Community Learning Centre in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, was assaulted.

Police said in a statement released on Friday that Jenamo was fatally stabbed by a gang of males who grabbed his phone and wallet. He was coming home from the learning center’s orientation day.

“At the time of the incident, Jenamo was in the company of fellow students whose belongings were also taken during the robbery,” said the police.

Nzimande said that the demise of Jenamo is a loss for the whole post-secondary education and training sector.

“Through the Gauteng Community College and Higher Health, the Department of Higher Education and Training will continue to provide the necessary support to the family,” Nzimande said.

Later, the four suspected murderers were apprehended on a tip from witnesses. This week, they made a brief appearance at the Mamelodi West magistrate’s court, and a formal bail application was postponed until Tuesday.

Nzimande also expressed his gratitude to the Mamelodi community for its prompt response and identification of the suspected killers.
