Bheki Cele, the Police Minister, will pay a visit to the family of Warrant Officer Mokgadi Joseas Mpepe, who was killed while on duty on Monday.

Mpepe, a 53-year-old Gauteng flying squad police officer, was shot and murdered while patrolling the N12, according to the Police Ministry. His spouse was injured and was being treated at the hospital.

Minister Cele and SAPS management will pay a visit to Mpepe’s family in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, to console them.

“According to police reports, members of the SAPS K-9 team were monitoring the N12 highway between Delmas and Daveyton on Monday evening when they saw a state vehicle stopped beside the route.”

“Members discovered the lifeless corpse of 53-year-old Warrant Officer Mpepe, who had been shot in the head, lying on the ground after a closer check. “His service gun and handcuffs were gone,” said Lirandzu Themba, a spokeswoman for the Police Ministry.

Constable Vusi Nhlapho, 33, was discovered unconscious on the scene with his partner.

“The member was evacuated to a nearby Johannesburg hospital for medical treatment and is recovering there,” according to the statement.
