Metro Police reveals streets that will affected by National Shutdown and alternative routes

The streets in Pretoria that would be severely impacted by the national shutdown tomorrow, Wednesday, August 24, have been identified by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD).

According to TMPD, the march is intended to protest both the high cost of living and the high unemployment rate. The trade union federation urged South Africans to stop working tomorrow and heed their demand for a nationwide strike as a protest against the lack of progress made by the public and commercial sectors in addressing socioeconomic issues.

The march will take the following path: beginning at the assembly area, protesters will march north on Lillian Ngoyi Street, turn right into Madiba Street, and continue straight until they arrive at the Union Buildings at Stanza Bopape Street.

The following streets will be affected

Francis Baard Street
Nana Sita Street
Vissagie Street
Pretorius Street
Helen Joseph Street
Madiba Street
Sisulu Street
Du Toit Street
Nelson Mandela Drive
Steve Biko Street
Hamilton Street

TMPD mentioned that they are expected to disperse from the Union Buildings at 14:30.

Motorists are advised to avoid affected streets and use alternative routes such as:

Jeff Masemola Street
Thabo Sehume Street
Struben Street
Bosman Street
Paul Kruger Street
Edmond Street
Park Street
