Today, forecasters announced that a cloud and rain band will move south across England and Wales tonight, following heavy rain and winds in southeast Scotland and northern England.

Some areas will experience clear, crisp, and chilly weather as temperatures creep back up to the mid-tens of degrees Celsius after Preston and Manchester recorded lows of 2 degrees Celsius early this morning.

Tomorrow will bring sunny intervals and a smattering of showers to the south, where the rain will have mostly cleared.

From Friday to Sunday, according to the Met Office, it will be cool with heavy rain and strong winds extending from the northwest to the southeast.

There will then be blustery showers, and there may be prolonged rain in the south of the United Kingdom.

Despite the increase in precipitation, only one flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency today, indicating the possibility of flooding.

The government agency reported that this morning and evening will feature strong winds and spring tides that could “cause large waves and spray to overtop the coast and Humber Estuary.”

These “higher tides” could cause flooding in low-lying coastal areas, particularly near the village of Kilnsea.

Craig Snell, a meteorologist at the Met Office, stated, “As we progress through the next few days, the weather will continue to be quite variable across the nation. Wednesday and Thursday will be plagued by showers, followed by a period of wet and windy weather on Friday.

“Returning to the present, we have an area of rain moving across Devon and Cornwall throughout the night. Elsewhere, daytime showers tend to dissipate across inland regions but persist across coastal regions, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the eastern seaboard of England, and Wales.

Under the clearer skies across western Scotland, northwestern England, and the midlands, temperatures here could drop to the single digits, but tomorrow morning will begin on a relatively sunny and dry note, whereas elsewhere we’ll see widespread showers from the get-go.

Later in the afternoon, this area of rain will move into southeastern Scotland and northeastern England, resulting in a wetter day’s end.

‘However, we should all feel a little less chilly due to a slightly weaker northern wind. As the night progresses, this rain band will move southwards across the majority of the United Kingdom, with some breaks. Remaining driest in western Northern Ireland, but for the most part a slightly less chilly night than of late, with a few locations reaching the middle single digits.

This will leave us with another day of sunny spells and showers, although the showers will be less frequent and further apart than they were on Wednesday.

‘Hopefully, there will be a bit more sunshine for the majority of us, and temperatures will rise to around 15 degrees Celsius, possibly 17 degrees Celsius in the south.

‘Then, taking a quick look at Friday, after this kind of slight brief dry spell on Thursday, another spell of wet and windy weather moves in from the Atlantic, particularly in the West, making it a drenching day for some of us.

This will be gone by Saturday, but there will be more frontal systems and a changeable start to the weekend.
