This week, it was revealed that Lionel Messi’s World Cup photo celebrating Argentina’s historic triumph over France in the final was the most liked Instagram image ever.
Messi’s Instagram post currently has 70 million and counting, surpassing the egg photo, which had 57 million likes, and Kylie Jenner’s 2018 snap with 18 million likes.
The 35-year-post old’s also topped the post of his all-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, in which the two were photographed playing chess together in a Luis Vuitton advertisement the day before the World Cup, with a total of 42 million likes.
However, Ronaldo is still the most followed celebrity on the social media network with 520 million followers, followed by Messi with 406 million followers.
The Paris Saint-Germain player also set the record for having the most liked Instagram clip, posting after the World Cup with 19.7 million likes, surpassing his own viral Pepsi advertisement from 2021.
His World Cup victory with Argentina ensured that he had won every major prize in which he had ever contested. In addition to shattering football records held by giants of the game, he is now breaking records outside of sports.
