Memes show Lilt enthusiasts’ sadness at the tropical soft drink’s cancellation

After it was revealed that the soft drink will be replaced, Lilt aficionados expressed their sorrow via amusing memes.

Fans of the soft drink flocked to Twitter to bid the soft drink goodbye. One person wrote: “Farewell lovely Lilt” next to a picture of a Lilt bottle cropped next to Paddington Bear.

A another person wrote: “RIP Lilt. I’ll never forget the days we spent together mixing Glenn’s vodka with you in the rear of the 501 bus headed to Watford.

It happens after Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), the drink’s owner and owner of Lilt, announced that a new kind of fanta will take its place on UK store shelves.

Another meme had a can of Lilt with the text, “Me enjoying my final Lilt,” and a picture of Phil Mitchell from the BBC serial opera EastEnders.

With the title “Takeaways in Britain now that Lilt is being terminated,” one person made advantage of Ian Beale from the soap opera by sharing a picture of the character sobbing online.

Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit will now be known as the product, according to Coca-Cola, which also revealed new branding.

The tart beverage was only available in the UK, Ireland, Gibraltar, and the Seychelles when it was first introduced in 1975 with the slogan “The Totally Tropical Taste.”

With its Lilt Man spoof advertisements in the late 1980s, Lilt entered popular culture. A decade later, it was marketed by two Jamaican ladies known as the Lilt Ladies.

In an attempt to create healthier goods in response to the government’s Public Health Responsibility Deal, Coca-Cola decreased the amount of calories, sugar, and artificial sweeteners in the beverage between 2008 and 2014.

Keen Lilt aficionados may have noticed a gradual transformation when the beverage entered the Fanta family over the previous several months, with modifications to its packaging and branding, the business said.

Martin Attock, vice president of commercial development for Coca-Cola in Great Britain, said, “Our major aim with this statement is to reassure Lilt’s devoted following that nothing has changed about the signature flavor of the drink they know and love.”

It still has zesty tropical flavors that are overflowing with flavor; it simply has a new name.

The new beverage will be offered beginning on February 14.
