Melbourne-based snake catcher shares alarming footage of large eastern brown snake

A Melbourne-based snake catcher has shared alarming footage of a large eastern brown snake squeezing its way under a door and inside a house. Mark Pelley, known as The Snake Hunter, filmed the deadly snake as it flattened itself to fit through a tiny gap.

He explained that even big brown snakes like this could squeeze under doors during summer and can often be found inside Australian homes.

All snakes in Melbourne are venomous and can flatten themselves to fit into tight spaces. Pythons found in other parts of Australia do not have this ability.

Mr Pelley suggests that there is no surefire way to keep snakes out of your home but recommends purchasing draught stoppers for external doors and ensuring all doors are tight against the ground. The video, which has been viewed more than 770,000 times on TikTok, has both horrified and educated viewers.

While some expressed their newfound fear and terror at the thought of snakes entering their homes, others asked for advice on keeping snakes away from their homes.

The footage also attracted the attention of overseas viewers, with some stating that this is one of the many reasons why they would never visit Australia.

Despite the risks involved, Mr Pelley remains dedicated to his work, even after being bitten by an eastern brown snake. He was recently discharged from the hospital and was back on the job capturing snakes just hours later.
