Meghan Markle’s podcast Archetypes debuts on Spotify

Finally available on Spotify, Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast’s first episode.

The Misconception of Ambition with Serena Williams is a conversation between Meghan and her close friend and tennis pro Williams regarding the discrimination women experience when they are seen to be “ambitious.”

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, and the sports champion, 40, discuss their experiences as new mums in their own words.

Meghan tells Williams that until she began dating her future husband, she had never heard the term “ambition” used in a bad way.

Serena Williams is featured in Meghan Markle’s long-awaited podcast, which was just posted on Spotify.

The couple’s lucrative Spotify arrangement was signed 18 months ago, and the Archewell Foundation announced earlier this year that the podcast will finally launch this summer.

Meghan, the presenter of “Archetypes,” will interview historians, professionals, and women who have dealt with stereotypes.

The duchess stated: “This is how we speak about women: the words that raise our daughters, and how the media reflects women back to us,” in a teaser for the Archewell Audio project. But from whence do these cliches originate? How do they continue to influence our lives and appear in them?

The duchess further explained: “This is Archetypes, the podcast where we analyse, investigate, and defy the categories that attempt to hold women back.” The duchess also gave a sample of the sorts of guests that would appear.

I’ll speak with women who are all too aware of how these stereotypes influence our narratives. Additionally, I’ll consult historians to learn how we came to be here.

In late 2020, Meghan and Harry agreed to a lucrative arrangement with the leading podcast producer and presenter that is said to be worth over £18 million.

But up until this point, they had only published one programme, a Christmas special starring their son Archie and famous guests.

“Spotify and Archewell Audio both value responsible management of the audio landscape, and as discussed previously, are dedicated to working closely to promote openness and strong values of trust and safety,” Spotify and Archewell Audio said in a joint statement.

Meghan has always advocated for women’s rights. Her chats with typecast women were characterised as “uncensored” by Spotify and Archewell Audio, who also claimed that the duchess will dive into the roots of stereotypes.

Along with Rebecca Sananes, the director of audio at Archewell, and Ben Browning, the head of content, former Suits actress Meghan serves as an executive producer on the show.

Gimlet Media and Archewell Audio are working together to develop the podcast for Spotify.
