Meghan Markle was aware of how to curtsy in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II.
After the former actress claimed in 2016 that she “didn’t know what [she] was doing” when she first met the late king, a clip from “Suits” showing her curtsying has resurfaced and gone viral.
Markle, who portrayed paralegal Rachel Zane in a 2010 episode of the drama series, curtsied subtly in front of Rick Hoffman, who portrayed attorney Louis Litt.
An Instagram user whose page is filled with royal family news recently posted the video, claiming that Markle’s “perfect” execution of the movement “only proves she knew well how to curtsey long before she met Harry” and that “her whole BS on Netflix about curtsying to the [Queen of England] was a joke.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex described Markle’s first visit with Her Majesty in Episode 2 of “Harry & Meghan.”
“My grandmother was the first senior family member Meghan met,” Harry, 38, explained in the docuseries, which premiered on Netflix earlier this month. It was a bit of a shock to her system, because she had no idea what it all entailed.
Markle, 41, adding, “It felt strange.” “There was no spectacular introduction like, ‘And now you’ll meet my granny.’” I had no idea I was going to meet her until mere moments beforehand.”
“We were in the car on our way to the Royal Lodge for lunch when Harry exclaimed, ‘Oh, my grandmother is here. She’ll be there following church,’” Markle went on. “And I recall that as we were coming up in the car, he asked, ‘Do you know how to curtsy?’ And I simply believed it to be a joke.”
Harry said, “How do you explain that to others?” How can you explain that you will need to bow before your grandmother and curtsy? Particularly for an American. “Like, that’s bizarre!”
Markle stated that she quickly recognized “this is a major issue” and that she felt as if she were living in “medieval times.”
“I curtsied as if I were,” she explained as she executed a bow that many social media users deemed impolite.
Markle claimed the moment as “very intense,” but Harry’s relatives informed her that she did “amazing.”

She recounted coming back up and saying, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty,” as she appeared to be giggling at herself.
Markle characterized the encounter as “very heated” and stated that she immediately sought reassurance that her conduct was at least acceptable.
She reported that Harry’s cousins praised her “excellent” performance.
