Meghan Markle allegedly suffered serious threats while living in the United Kingdom: ex-counterterrorism head says

In a new interview with Channel 4 News, Anil Kanti “Neil” Basu, the former chief of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police in London, stated there were “disgusting and very real” threats made against the Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry.

“I have spoken openly for many years about the threat of extreme right-wing terrorism in this nation,” he added, calling it the “fastest-growing” menace in the United Kingdom.

“If you had seen what was written and received it — the kind of speech found online — and you did not know what I know, you would constantly feel threatened.

Basu stated that he and his team conducted an investigation into the alleged threats against Meghan Markle and “prosecuted” a number of those involved.

Harry, 38, has been extremely vocal in the past about his desire to protect Markle, 41, and their two children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 17 months, from danger. Therefore, the interview comes as no surprise.

The royal stated in the Apple+ TV documentary “The Me You Can’t See” that he worried for his wife’s safety due to the paparazzi’s treatment of his mother, Princess Diana, up until her death in a vehicle accident.

He continued, “My mother was murdered because she was in a relationship with a non-white man [Dodi Al Fayed], and now look what’s occurred.”

“You wish to discuss historical repetition? They will not stop till she is dead.”

Harry and Markle’s safety concerns were exacerbated by the fact that they were deprived of their security benefits in the UK after announcing their 2020 departure from key royal family positions and relocation to California.

The Royal and VIP Executive Committee decided to reduce the couple’s security at the time, which had a significant impact on their lives.

Previously, Harry’s legal team indicated that he and the “Suits” alum “did not feel secure” bringing their children to the United Kingdom.

The team noted at the time that the couple’s American security team did not have access to or jurisdiction over UK government intelligence.
