Mchunu is prepared for a second WBC bout

The World Boxing Council (WBC) has provided Thabiso “The Rock” Mchunu with another opportunity, and he intends to make the most of it because he still aspires to become its champion.

Mchunu was ordered to meet Badou Jack in a final cruiserweight eliminator during the annual WBC Convention, which celebrated the council’s 60th anniversary in October.

As the bout has been sanctioned by the WBC, the talented Mchunu will get a second chance.

Jack, who is from Sweden and signed with Mayweather Promotions, is a former world champion in two weight classes, having held the WBC super-middleweight and World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight titles from 2014 until 2017.

As an amateur, he represented Gambia at the 2008 Olympics in the middleweight division, advancing to the first round. He has 27 victories and three defeats. He is ranked seventh, whereas Mchunu, who has a record of 26 victories and six losses, holds the fourth position.

Mchunu told Sunday World that he was informed he must negotiate his way to the WBC title through Jack. He declared that he was eager to begin and swore to return more powerful. “I am ecstatic about the news, and all that remains is for the WBC to authorize a promoter for the match. Mchunu stated, “I cannot let this opportunity slip through my fingers because my heart is still bleeding from my failure to win this crown.”

In his last battle against defending champion Ilunga “Junior” Makabu in the United States, Mchunu was knocked out in the eleventh round.

It was Mchunu’s second setback versus Makabu, who was born in the DR Congo.

“I have no desire to dwell on the past. I am concentrating on areas where I may have fallen short. I did not enjoy Christmas since I was so busy preparing for the occasion”.

Cato Ridge, a small village between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, is Mchunu’s hometown, but he now resides in Gauteng. The southpaw is tutored in his career by trainer Sean Smith.
