During the peak of the holiday season on some national roadways, a number of accidents resulting in significant injuries and fatalities were reported.

Between 2019 and 2021, at least 8,547 young people lost their life on the roadways. The numbers, which were released earlier in 2022 by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), pertain to individuals between the ages of 21 and 34.

During this three-year period, according to RTMC, those between the ages of 30 and 34 were the most affected group. There were 3,661 deaths in this age group due to automobile accidents.

Simon Zwane, a spokesperson for RTMC, described the material as “alarming statistics.” Zwane stated that young people must prioritize road safety as celebrations continue.

Four children are among the 13 fatalities in a terrible Free State tragedy.

Zwane cited reluctance to use safety belts, excessive speeds, and driving under the influence of alcohol as factors that contributed to the collisions.

“Persistent risk-taking behavior, such as reluctance to use safety belts, driving at speeds that are too high for the conditions, and driving under the influence of alcohol, contribute to the high number of road fatalities among youth,” Zwane stated.
