Michael Hugo, the chair of the Framingham Democratic Committee in Massachusetts, is facing backlash and calls to resign after suggesting that disabled children should have been aborted to save on the city’s school budget during a city council meeting.
Hugo questioned whether crisis pregnancy centers misdiagnose women who have disabled children, saying that if an unqualified stenographer misdiagnoses a heart defect, an organ defect, spina bifida, or encephalopathic defect, the school budget would have to absorb the cost of the child in their special education budget.
The official’s comments sparked protests outside City Hall, and outraged local residents are calling for his resignation. Despite the backlash, Hugo says he has no intention of stepping down.
