Mason Greenwood gets bail before his court appearance

Mason Greenwood, a football player for Manchester United, will be let out of prison later today after being granted bail.

After spending two nights in prison, the 21-year-old England striker will be released after his legal team requested bail.

He’s being detained in HMP Berwyn in Wrexham, North Wales, and will be let out later.

At the conclusion of a brief hearing at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court, Judge John Potter granted Greenwood bail.

The Manchester United player faces allegations of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and violence on a minor pupil.

At the short hearing in court this morning, Greenwood wasn’t there.

The press had to observe outside Court 4 since it was held in private.

The terms of his bail include that he must remain in his leased property in Bowdon, Greater Manchester, and that he is not permitted to speak with the complainant or a number of witnesses.

Wearing a grey hoodie and grey jogging trousers, the forward made his only courtroom appearance at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

His legal team submitted a bail application today, and it was approved. He had been refused release up to a crown court hearing on November 21.

On October 22, 2021, the football player was accused of trying to rape a lady.

Additionally, he is charged with using coercive or controlling behavior, including “watching her social media accounts and issuing threats and insulting remarks against her, amounting to a significant influence upon her.”

He is also charged with assault on December 21 that resulted in real bodily injury.

The footballer was first detained in January in connection with claims involving a young lady after pictures and videos were uploaded online.

He had since been released on bond, but on Saturday he was taken into custody in the Trafford area for allegedly breaking his bail terms.

He was detained because he allegedly contacted the purported victim in violation of his bail terms.

On Saturday, just after 4 o’clock, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced that it had given the Greater Manchester Police permission to prosecute Greenwood.

Mason Greenwood, 21, has been charged by the Crown Prosecution Service with attempted rape, using coercive or controlling behavior, and assault causing real bodily injury, according to Janet Potter, deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS North West.

‘The same complainant is involved in all three charges.

According to CPS North West’s difficult casework team, “specialist rape prosecutors authorized the charges after reviewing a dossier of evidence supplied from Greater Manchester Police.”

While the allegation of assault causing real bodily injury is dated December 2021, the controlling and coercive behavior is related to the time between November 2018 and October of this year.

The striker, who has made one appearance for England, was prohibited from playing or practicing with the Old Trafford club hours after the claims went viral online at the start of the year.

Greenwood’s sponsorship agreement with Nike was put on hold and ultimately cancelled, and Electronic Arts confirmed his withdrawal from Fifa 22’s active teams.
