Mark Latham says Australia won’t become republic for another generation BECAUSE of the Queen’s death

Mark Latham, leader of One Nation in New South Wales, asserts that Australia is at least a generation away from becoming a republic due to the affection displayed for the monarchy since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

One Nation's Mark Latham said there has been 'a phenomenal outpouring of grief and respect' for the Queen (pictured)

Mr. Latham stated that the nation had witnessed a “phenomenal outpouring of grief and respect for someone who, over the past seventy years, appears to have made the monarchy a permanent component of our governing structures.”

Mr. Latham stated that Queen Elizabeth II will be the ‘No’ campaign’s hidden weapon, since Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had already pledged a republic referendum if Labor is again in 2025.

‘If you were running a monarchist campaign for a republican referendum, you would focus on Queen Elizabeth advertising.

It would be unwise not to.

Mr. Latham’s remarks are made despite his dislike for the new king.

We do not truly know how Charles will develop. He is way too enlightened for me, speaking to plants and doing other such things.

He stated, “I wonder where his brain is, but if you were to lead the monarchist campaign in a referendum, you would base it on the memory of the Queen.”

Mr. Latham stated that support for the monarchy will not diminish anytime soon, regardless of how King Charles III governs.

I believe this is a once-in-a-decade event, and people will remember where they were and how they felt when they got the news (of the Queen’s death).

It ranks alongside the Moon landing, September 11, Diana’s death, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. All of these are significant occurrences in the age of mass media.

“Add the death and mourning of Queen Elizabeth II to that list.” I don’t believe it will be quickly forgotten or disappear into history,’ he stated.

It is one of those things that people seem to remember. Obviously, love and respect for the Queen will influence future discussions regarding the republic.

Mr. Latham also criticized the way the republic campaign is conducted.

“Could anyone have faith in this republican movement led by Peter FitzSimons, the red pirate?” he asked, alluding to the bandana worn by Mr. FitzSimons.

He stated that the Republican movement is “fundamentally divided” about which form of presidential referendum should be put to a vote.

‘Republican movement elites dislike the direct election paradigm.

They stated that they did not want Shane Warne to become president during his lifetime. Mr. Latham stated, “I imagine they wouldn’t want Nick Kyrgios or someone similar now.”

Featured is a tweet from One Nation member of parliament Mark Latham stating that the republican cause is doomed for at least a generation.

He stated that for a vote to have an Australian president as head of state to be successful, it must result in a direct election model, but ‘the elites don’t want that’

‘The elites just want to manipulate and control the process, such as every state legislature nominating a presidential candidate, but that will never happen.

People do not trust politicians to carry out this action. People desire a direct voice,’ he stated.

In conclusion, Mr. Latham stated that there are “three major impediments” preventing the establishment of an Australian republic for a very long period.

You have the current period of mourning for the Queen and the extraordinary esteem in which she is held.

“There is FitzSimons, who, as a strategist, you would not feed.

‘And you have the basic schism inside the republican movement, where they can never find a popular model that is going to succeed,’ he said.

Despite his opinions on the election, Mr. Latham is a Republican.

As a political realist, he stated, ‘I wish we had a republic, but I just don’t see how it would work.’

And he has a very straightforward message for those who believe there has been excessive media coverage of the Queen’s death in Australia.

He stated, “It is saturation coverage, but it is saturation coverage because of public sentiment.”

For comment, Peter FitzSimons has been contacted.
