On Wednesday, 11 January, the Limpopo Highway Patrol team detained a guy and confiscated chrome with an estimated street value of R500,000.

A 38-year-old male was apprehended while driving along R37 near Atok in the Apel police precinct outside Burgersfort.

At around 23:00, while conducting routine patrols, the members observed an overloaded dump truck traveling in the direction of Burgessfort.

When questioned about the cargo, the driver indicated that he was hauling allegedly illegally mined chrome from an Atok mine.

The perpetrator was captured promptly, and the truck was seized.

On Friday, January 13, the suspect is due to appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court.

He is charged with illegal possession of precious metals (chrome). The inquiry by the police is underway.
