Chicago Bears linebacker Matt Adams, 26, has been arrested on misdemeanor charges of possessing an illegal gun, a high-capacity magazine and metal-piercing bullets

Matt Adams, a linebacker for the Chicago Bears, was detained on suspicion of misdemeanor offenses related to the possession of an illegal firearm, a large magazine, and metal-piercing ammunition.

Both metal-piercing bullets and large-capacity magazines are against Chicago’s municipal laws.

According to a representative for the Chicago Police Department, the weapon, magazine, and ammo were found while searching for a suspected stolen vehicle.

After seeing Adams near the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, police questioned him. Adams admitted to owning the car to the police.

When officers searched the car, which was near Michigan Avenue in Chicago’s downtown, they found the weapon.

Adams does possess a firearms license, but not in Illinois.
On August 24, during Bears training camp, he is due in court.

Following receiver Byron Pringle, who was detained for reckless driving and operating a vehicle with a suspended license in April, Adams is the second Bears player to be arrested this offseason.

After his defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus, accepted the role as head coach of the Bears, 26-year-old Adams, who played four seasons for the Indianapolis Colts, signed with Chicago in April.
