When Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns meet at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Tuesday, Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila will have the opportunity to back up his comments that Mamelodi Sundowns is a “very simple team to play against.”
Mammila stunned soccer fans when he recently declared at a news conference that the defending league winners are the easiest club to face.
“Sundowns is the most straightforward squad to play against; even a DDC [DStv Diski Challenge] player can tell you how they play. “Very easy team to play against,” stated Mammila.
“The only difference between them and us is that they have mastered the system. I hear folks discussing the quality of Sundowns. No, there is nothing like it. Half of these Sundowns players were facing relegation in their previous clubs.
“When I play Sundowns, I don’t even have to record a video. All of my guys are familiar with the Sundowns’ style of play.”
Masandawana, however, will not be fazed by the 51-year-remarks, old’s as Rulani Mokwena and his squad have been unstoppable this season, with 12 wins at the halfway point of the campaign, and will be aiming for their 10th consecutive win against Chippa United.
Peter Shalulile’s stoppage-time goal gave Sundowns a 1-0 victory against the Gqeberha-based club in their most recent match, costing then-coach Daine Klate his job.
The Brazilians are currently 10 points ahead of their archrivals in Pretoria, Supersport United, and will want to expand their lead to 13 points.
