Nottingham Forest is considering Patrick Vieira as a possible replacement for current under-pressure manager Steve Cooper.

The club owner, Evangelos Marinakis, recently gave a vote of confidence to Cooper amidst rumours of a potential sacking.

Vieira is aware of Forest’s interest but wants to wait until the summer before finding a new job after his dismissal from Crystal Palace last month.

He is still considered by Forest as the best option to assume the hotseat should the club decide to replace Cooper.

Cooper, who took over last year, guided Forest to Championship play-off glory and promotion to the Premier League.

However, following an overhaul of the squad last summer, Forest has had a tough time in the Premier League, picking up just three points from their last nine games.

A loss to Manchester United on April 16 could prove to be the final straw for Cooper.

Vieira’s 20-month reign at Selhurst Park came to an abrupt end after Palace failed to register a single victory in 13 attempts this year.

Despite his dismissal, he is still highly regarded by Forest as a potential candidate for the job.

The Frenchman, who previously captained Arsenal and the French national team, is expected to be Forest’s first choice if they decide to part ways with Cooper.
