Battersea’s Old Windsor centre has a special resident, a Lurcher dog named Perry, who has been in their care for over 18 months.
Perry just celebrated his fourth birthday, marking another year of waiting for his forever home.
Birthday Celebrations at the Centre
In honor of his fourth birthday, the staff at the centre threw a garden party for Perry.
The event was filled with toys, presents, and balloons.
Perry has been in the charity’s care for almost 600 days, which is 15 times longer than the average 35-day stay of most Battersea dogs.
Challenges to Adoption
Staff suspect that Perry’s prolonged search for a new family is due to his tendency to get overly excited around people.
However, Perry’s stint in a foster home with one of Battersea’s dedicated Foster Carers has seen significant improvements in his behaviour.
He has shown himself to be a playful, loving dog.
Perry’s Resilient Spirit
Perry, despite the long wait for a permanent home, remains in high spirits.
Battersea staff praise him as a joyful dog who lights up everyone’s day with his charming antics and sweet disposition.
Rosie Beauvais, a Rehoming & Welfare Assistant and Perry’s Foster Carer, described Perry as a delight.
She added, “He never fails to make me smile with his goofy personality.
“He loves to play and enjoys the outdoors, often seen galloping around at full speed in the garden.”

Despite the general perception of Sighthounds as couch potatoes, Perry is an active dog who enjoys stretching his legs.
The team at Battersea hopes to find an energetic family experienced with Sighthounds who can match Perry’s zest for life and help him expend his energy through stimulating walks and playtime.
