London police arrest eco-protesters but can’t stop them from obstructing roads

The environmental group Just Stop Oil continued its month-long protest this morning by blocking traffic on the A4 Cromwell Road in front of the Natural History Museum, causing additional traffic congestion.

At 9:40 a.m., thirty activists entered the roadway at the intersection with Exhibition Road and glued themselves to the road surface with lock-ons.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed the arrests of four individuals on suspicion of possessing goods for criminal damage and two individuals for conspiracy to commit criminal damage.

However, cops were unable to prevent the remainder of the eco-mob from entering the roadway and impeding traffic.

Multiple officers can be seen on video standing in front of demonstrators who are seated on the road, with one PC asking an activist, “Why won’t you move?”

It comes as the protest organization prepares for its nineteenth consecutive day of protests, demanding that the government cease issuing licenses and permits for additional oil and gas exploration.

The group obstructed the A4 Cromwell Road as it continued to demand that the government cease issuing new gas and oil exploration licenses and consents.

This morning, the protest organization issued the following statement: ‘Just Stop Oil supporters halted traffic at the intersection of A4 Cromwell Road and Exhibition Road in central London. They are demanding that all new oil and gas permits and licenses be halted.

“Today at 9:40 a.m., Just Stop Oil supporters marched onto Cromwell Road near Exhibition Road and delayed traffic by sitting in the street with banners.” Some fans attached themselves to the asphalt, while others utilized lock-ons.

Just Stop Oil continues to peacefully oppose the government’s intentions to license more than 100 new oil and gas projects by 2025, as well as its failure to keep its commitment to assist citizens with their soaring energy bills.

‘Today’s roadblock followed over two weeks of continuous civil resistance by Just Stop Oil supporters, during which police made over 500 arrests,’

Rich Felgate, a filmmaker creating a documentary about the group, stated that he was searched by police on the same road before to the protest.

A representative for the Metropolitan Police stated that officers have already made a number of arrests and worked swiftly to reopen one lane of the congested route.

Officers were dispatched at 9:42 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19 to the intersection of Cromwell Road and Exhibition Road in Kensington.

Twenty-five protestors from Just Stop Oil were obstructing the road, while ten others had attached themselves to the pavement.

Officers arrived immediately, arrests have been made, and one lane has been reopened.

Four individuals were apprehended in the vicinity just prior to the protest, two for possession of articles to cause criminal damage and two for conspiracy to commit criminal damage.

Just Stop Oil reports that 28 activists participated in the protest, which began at 9:40 a.m. and is part of a month’s worth of rallies.

Officers were then observed herding them into a police van shortly before eco-mob activists blocked the roadway.

The Metropolitan Police stated that four individuals were arrested shortly prior to the demonstration on suspicion of possessing articles for criminal damage and conspiracy to commit criminal damage.

Two guys who caused traffic congestion on the M25 by climbing the Dartford Bridge and staying there for 37 hours were eventually apprehended yesterday after deciding to descend.

Monday morning, London residents Morgan Trowland, 39, and Marcus Carambola, 33, scaled the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, which crosses the River Thames between Kent and Essex.

They remained there until Tuesday afternoon, when the authorities dispatched a’super cherry picker’ in an attempt to reach them. They were detained on accusations of conspiring to create a public nuisance.

Other members of Just Stop Oil blocked the A4 in west London at the Baron’s Court tube station on the same day, infuriating drivers.

One irate Londoner accosted members of the group, asking that the “lazy b******s get a job,” while others called for their arrest.
