LIV Golf League signs THREE more big-name players – report

Danny Lee of New Zealand, Thomas Pieters of Belgium, and Brendan Steele of the United States will join the LIV Golf League for the upcoming season.

Several sources on Saturday indicated that New Zealand’s Danny Lee, Belgium’s Thomas Pieters, and America’s Brendan Steele will join the LIV Golf League for the upcoming season.

According to ESPN, PGA Tour stars Lee and Steele will join DP World Tour star Pieters in switching to the Saudi-backed series, which has attracted elite talent with $25 million payouts and 54-hole events.

Lee did not make the cut at this week’s PGA tournament at Riviera, while Steele withdrew prior to the competition’s start. Pieters, who was ranked 34th, was not invited.

Pieters, age 31, was expected to be a member of Europe’s Ryder Cup team for this year’s tournament against the United States in Italy. He has won six times on the European circuit, most recently in Abu Dhabi the previous year.

Lee, 32 years old, was born in South Korea and became a citizen of New Zealand in 2008. He won the 2009 Johnnie Walker Classic on the European Tour as an amateur and the 2015 Greenbrier Classic on the PGA Tour.

Steele, 39, is a three-time PGA Tour champion, having won the Texas Open in 2011 and the Safeway Opens in 2016 and 2017.

Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson are among the players who have left the PGA Tour since LIV Golf’s launch in June of last year.

The 14-event LIV Golf season begins on Friday at Mexico’s Mayakoba.
