Lisa Wilkinson’s daughter Billi Fitzimmons’ faced her first significant challenge

After her daughter’s news outlet confused the German and Aboriginal flags, a Photoshop gaffe has put the cherry on top of a good week for Lisa Wilkinson’s family.

The editor of the “social media first” publication The Daily Aus since March is Billi FitzSimons, Wilkinson and Peter FitzSimons’ daughter.

And this week, the 24-year-old faced her first significant challenge in the top position when the website changed the Aboriginal flag to the German flag at the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

A day later, Ms. FitzSimons placed a job listing searching for a fact checker with “meticulous attention to detail,” in what can only be described as strange timing.

The article discussed the government’s choice to spend $25 million to erect the Aboriginal flag atop the iconic Sydney building.

Sam Koslowski, a co-founder, said in a statement to Daily Mail Australia: “It was just a simple mistake.”

“While creating some fresh mockups for our website, one of our web designers unintentionally published a mockup online.

“Our editorial crew had nothing to do with this; it was a design testing error.” It was accidentally publicized and was solely intended for internal design approval.

“To prevent this from happening again, we have examined our internal design and testing methods.”

Following the error, Ms. FitzSimons published the job listing on Thursday using LinkedIn and Twitter.

It advertised for a meticulous someone who could “critically evaluate sources.”

According to its website description, The Daily Aus “offers young Australians an entertaining and digestible method to receive the news.”

According to the website, “Our goal is to offer context to a news story going around.”

This week, after The Project host’s Logies-winning statement caused the suspected rapist of Brittany Higgins’ case to be postponed, Ms. FitzSimon’s mother Lisa’s error was at the center of a national controversy.

Mr. Lehrmann has entered a not guilty plea and denies any misconduct.

After mentioning alleged rape victim Higgins in her acceptance speech for earning the Outstanding News Coverage Logie award in 2021 for her one-on-one interview with the former ministerial aide, there were calls for Wilkinson to be charged with contempt of court.

Bruce Lehrmann’s trial was postponed until October as a result of ACT Chief Justice Lucy McCallum’s worry that Wilkinson’s remarks would sway the jury.

The case centers on an alleged rape that Ms. Higgins claims happened in Parliament House in 2019 but that Lehrmann disputes.

Since “the distinction between an untested allegation and the fact of guilt has been lost somewhere in this debate,” Justice McCallum made the decision to postpone the trial “regrettably and with clinched teeth.”

She pointed out that before Lehrmann would have access to a fair jury, popular interest in the case needed to wane.

Just hours after Dr. Collins criticized Wilkinson’s statement on competitor Chanel Seven’s Sunrise morning show, Network 10 announced that it has retained prominent attorney Matthew Collins to represent the Network and Wilkinson.

It’s probable that the authorities may review the speech she gave to the Logies and determine whether it violated the standards that apply in this area of the law, according to Dr. Collins.

Does anything she did have a tendency to obstruct the administration of justice, according to that standard?

Network Ten acknowledged that Dr. Collins had been appointed to represent it and Wilkinson and declared that it “completely supports Lisa Wilkinson.”

In preparing for and delivering her address at the Logies ceremony, Lisa Wilkinson and Network 10 both took their legal obligations very seriously.

It would be improper to say further at this time given the ongoing processes.

Additionally, Ten issued a warning to media outlets that were covering the court drama.

According to a network representative, “This reporting is now causing serious harm, and we want these organizations to discontinue this harassment to afford Lisa the best opportunity to give her evidence in court and to make it possible for the trial to proceed in a fair and timely manner.”

“We are carefully watching all coverage of this matter, and Lisa and Network 10 reserve their rights with regard to any foreseeable defamation claims,” the statement reads.
