Lisa Wilkinson criticizes Elon Musk after Twitter takeover: Project

After Elon Musk completed his first week as the new owner of Twitter, Lisa Wilkinson launched a vicious attack against him.

Musk, 51, has laid off over half of Twitter’s 7,500-person workforce, including key executives, and launched a plan to sell blue-tick verification badges for $8US per month in the span of seven days.

Wilkinson stated on the Sunday Project, “I’m still waiting for the part where Elon Musk will benefit humanity by owning Twitter; I haven’t seen any evidence of that yet.”

Musk made the audacious assertion when acquiring Twitter, adding that he wished to build a “shared digital town square” where diverse viewpoints could be discussed in a healthy manner.

Musk stated, “There is a significant risk that social media may fragment into far-right and far-left echo chambers that produce hatred and divide civilization.”

He has yet to provide specifics on how he intends to address Twitter’s concerns, other than targeting the ‘bots’ he claims plague the platform.

However, he has described himself as a “absolutist of free speech,” so any serious crackdown on trolls or hate speech appears doubtful.

Approximately 900,000 Twitter accounts have been deleted since Musk acquired the firm, indicating that many do not trust Musk’s plans for the social media giant.

Elfy Scott, co-host of Wilkinson’s The Sunday Project, expressed uncertainty as to whether she would join the exodus.

It has been historically demonstrated that Twitter has many positive attributes, she noted.

Without Twitter, #metoo or #blacklivesmatter would not have witnessed such a massive mobilization.

However, I believe that I am beginning to agree with the 900,000 individuals, and I believe that there are a significant number of people in my age bracket who feel the same way.

Twitter Blue will also provide subscribers with preferential ranking for ‘excellent material,’ so enhancing subscribers’ exposure in responses, mentions, and reaches.

The firm has officially launched Twitter Blue, a new subscription-based system proposed by new CEO Elon Musk that would allow users to pay US$7.99 per month for a verified checkmark next to their username as well as advantages such as fewer advertisements and longer videos.

A Saturday in-app iOS notification reveals the capabilities that will be available to Twitter Blue members, including the option to upload videos up to 10 minutes in length and the chance to view half as many advertisements as regular users.

The service is now accessible in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, but Musk has suggested that it will soon be accessible worldwide.

As soon as we confirm that it is functioning properly in the initial set of countries and the translation work is complete, it will be rolled out globally,’ Musk tweeted on Saturday.

In addition, it will provide subscribers with priority ranking for ‘excellent material,’ which will increase subscribers’ exposure in replies, mentions, and reaches.

This, per the firm, will “reduce the visibility of scams, spam, and bots.”

The $44 billion acquisition was completed on October 27.

Within the first week, 3,700 of Twitter’s 7,500 employees were laid off through email, a decision Musk justified by stating he had ‘no option’ because the firm was losing $4 million per day.

Reports indicate that he sacked a number of executives from the sales, trust and safety, marketing, product, engineering, and legal departments.

Twitter’s human rights team and ‘ethical AI’ team, among others, have also been eliminated from the firm.
