Limpopo Education MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya,  pleads with parents and guardians to use the remaining days to register their children for admission in public schools for the year 2023

Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, the MEC for Education in Limpopo, has pleaded with parents and guardians to use the remaining days to enrol their children in public schools for the upcoming school year of 2023.

Beginning on May 24, 2022, applications for admission to Grades R through 11 will remain open until Friday, July 29, 2022.

For the academic year 2023, the department announced that it would only accept walk-in applications for student admission to public schools.

“MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya has prioritised a proactive approach since it will lessen the difficulties that schools and circuits encounter with annual registration at the start of the year.

The MEC is also advising parents, particularly those who live in townships and villages, to not choose metropolitan schools over schools closer to their homes because they share a common curriculum, the department stated.

According to Lerule-Ramakhanya, the transfer of students from village and township schools to urban schools has dramatically decreased student enrolment in the majority of rural schools, which has caused schools that do not meet the necessary threshold to merge or close.

The department’s stated mission read, “The department’s concentration is mostly on the lower grades (grades R and 1) and learners who are either switching schools or progressing to senior schools.”

By the end of August 2022, candidates will receive comments, according to the department, and in September 2022, confirmation forms will be given to returning students.

Once the registration procedure has been completed, the department will announce the total number of applications received and handled.
