Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro leads the sod turning of the Mpilo Boulevard upgrade at Moshoeshoe

On Tuesday, Dr Moeketsi Majoro led the sod turning ceremony for the Mpilo Boulevard upgrade at Moshoeshoe I statue park.

The Mpilo Boulevard is intended to control traffic within Maseru town.

According to Dr. Majoro, the upgrade will improve the livelihoods of Maseru residents, as many accidents have occurred at the Mpilo Boulevard intersection, so the intersection of this road will improve road safety.

Dr. Mojaro stated that this project began in 2014 when the government recognized the need for road expansion around Maseru City Council in order to reduce traffic congestion.

Mr. Moshe Leoma, Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship, also spoke, stating that the Mpilo Boulevard upgrade project aims to improve road safety and traffic control.

Mr. Leoma stated that the intersection was built by the Lesotho government in collaboration with the Road Fund.

He also stated that the project is expected to be completed in 31 months and that the Mpilo Boulevard upgrade will cost approximately M379 million.

Mr. Tholang Sefojane, Mayor of Maseru, said the construction of the Mpilo Boulevard upgrade is a great achievement for the Maseru City Council, despite some challenges.

Mr. Sefojane stated that the upgrade is in response to public outcry over the lack of roads in Maseru, and that it will improve traffic control around town.

Chief Lerotholi Seeiso, speaking on behalf of the Principal Chief of Matsieng, stated that the Principal Chief of Matsieng pleaded with the government to keep him informed of any developments in his area, but that this construction will improve infrastructure in Maseru.

Construction of new road links, vehicle flyover bridges, underpasses, exclusive pedestrian bridges, and signalization are all part of the project.
