Prime Minister Boris Johnson met Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the G7 Summit in Germany today

At the G7 Summit in Germany today, the prime minister spoke with Fumio Kishida, the prime minister of Japan.

The leaders began by appreciating the solidity of relations between the UK and Japan.

They both applauded tomorrow’s removal of UK import restrictions on goods made in Fukushima.

The Prime Minister commended Prime Minister Kishida for his steadfast stand against Putin’s brutality in Ukraine for his support of the Ukrainian people.

They concurred that Ukraine’s position in the conflict has been and will continue to be enhanced by the G7 leaders’ shared understanding of this subject.

The UK is committed to upholding the rule of law and national sovereignty everywhere, the Prime Minister emphasized. Democratic leaders must unite in opposition to any attempts to undermine our ideals.

The leaders decided to keep pushing for an open and free Indo-Pacific.

The Prime Minister and Prime Minister Kishida concurred that the work being done by the UK and Japan to create the newest fighter jets is extremely valuable to both of our nations and will serve as the cornerstone of UK-Japan cooperation for years to come.

They agreed to look at ways to leverage our joint global leadership in fields like science and technology to promote the UK-Japan partnership.
