Laverne Cox replies to being mistaken for Beyoncé

Laverne Cox, who was misidentified as Beyoncé at the US Open, took to social media to share her shock.

Some Beyoncé fans mistook the four-time Emmy-nominated actress for the “Naughty Girl” singer in the audience at the 2022 US Open, according to aceshowbiz.com.

In New York City, the 50-year-old celebrity sat in the stands wearing an all-black ensemble and a matching black mask. She attended the competition to support Serena Williams, who is competing in her final US Open before retiring.

Cox, who is the first transgender person to appear on the cover of Time magazine, expressed her surprise on Instagram after her name and Beyoncé trended on Twitter.

“Not me being confused for @Beyonce tonight at the #USOpen, then trending on Twitter while the Internet chortles at the erroneous identification.” These tweets are hilarious. Enjoy!!! Go @serenawilliams #GOAT #SerenaWilliams #Beyonce,” she tweeted alongside other humorous hashtags.

This began when Choni, a Twitter user, tweeted a little footage of Cox in the center of the audience. “#Beyonce at the #USOpen,” Choni wrote in the video’s caption. People quickly corrected him, pointing out that it was indeed Laverne.

“Baby. Angel Lenise shared Choni’s tweet with the remark, “That is Laverne Cox.”

Someone person tweeted, “Laverne Cox right now,” accompanied by a GIF of a happy woman with the message, “Every day somebody thinks I’m Beyonce.”

I was the culprit, girl. Lol https://t.co/fbBsu8JjTu

Choni published a statement a few hours later after mistaking Laverne for Beyonce.

He commented, “I’m beginning to believe that my confusion of @Lavernecox and @Beyonce at the #USOpen may have been acceptable. I will observe for twenty-four hours. I believe that may be intended as a compliment. ‘We gone see.’ ”
