Klopp pleased to sign Melo as Henderson awaits scan findings

London — Liverpool’s injury issue was alleviated by the loan signing of Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo from Juventus, according to Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp is awaiting the results of a diagnostic on Jordan Henderson’s injured hamstring as Liverpool’s midfield continues to be decimated by injuries in advance of Saturday’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

Henderson, an Englishman, hobbled out of Wednesday’s triumph against Newcastle and will miss the Everton match.

This season, Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all suffered midfield injuries for Liverpool.

Arthur is awaiting international clearance and will thus not play against Everton.

However, Klopp is thrilled with the 26-year-arrival old’s for the remainder of the season, and he is expected to play in Wednesday’s Champions League match against Napoli.

“I was quite pleased with his move. According to my research, the international clearance will not occur until tomorrow. We all hope everything works out well for Napoli,” Klopp said to reporters on Friday.

“He is an exceptional football player. He has already had a very interesting career and is still young, entering the prime age for a player.

“He is rhythmic, an excellent distributor, quick with the ball, and secure on the ball. Excellent in confined spaces and all of these other situations.

“I enjoy it a lot. Why can a guy like him be loaned out when it did not work out at Juventus?

“Potential remains unquestionably. We play differently than Juventus, and we all believed it might work out, therefore I am very delighted.”

After finishing his three-match ban for his red card in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Uruguayan attacker Darwin Nunez will rejoin the Liverpool roster.

“He has now learnt a lesson. “He’s in great form, and we’ve won the previous two games despite his absence, so we don’t view that as a negative,” Klopp added.

“We attempt to provide him with more physical and tactical feedback. He seemed more comfortable than previously.”
