KiwiFarms, a fringe community renowned for harassing trans individuals and publishing vile content, is facing an existential dilemma after Cloudflare stopped it on Saturday. Cloudflare cited the website’s inflammatory speech as a threat to human life after a large online protest.

Clara Sorrenti, aka Keffals, a Twitch streamer and activist, led the effort. The protest against KiwiFarms gained pace in late August and early September after transgender woman Sorrenti spoke out about doxxing and online threats.

“#DropKiwiFarms” became the largest public campaign against the platform, noted for xenophobic and extreme content. The image and message board was founded in 2009 as CWCki to ridicule Christine Chandler. It was relaunched as KiwiFarms in 2015 and became a hotbed for online harassment.

Multiple KiwiFarms troll victims have committed suicide in recent years, Insider revealed.

Cloudflare originally resisted withdrawing KiwiFarms, saying in a blog post last week that it seldom terminates website security services. The CEO and VP did not name KiwiFarms in their statement.

The message stated Cloudflare has issues about eliminating fringe websites like The Daily Stormer and 8chan.

“After both terminations, authoritarian regimes tried to have us end security for human rights groups,” the post says.

Cloudflare stopped KiwiFarms because of criminal threats submitted to the site, a spokeswoman said. The spokeswoman stated banning the forum is “not an effective or long-term solution”

#DropKiwiFarms followed targeted harassment.

Sorrenti said she woke up to a police officer pointing a gun at her in her London, Ontario house after KiwiFarms members allegedly planned to SWAT her. (Swatting entails fabricating phony threats or false claims to convince armed police to arrest someone.)

The 28-year-old Canadian said she went into hiding when KiwiFarms members tracked her whereabouts and harassed her online despite moving.

Sorrenti alleged in a YouTube video on August 19 that he’d been harassed for months. “I’ve had friends, family, and even loosely-related people doxxed. Last month, things escalated.”

Since then, Sorrenti has campaigned against KiwiFarms and asked Cloudflare to drop it. “#DropKiwiFarms” and “#CloudflareProtectsTerrorists” trended on Twitter in late August, per Vice.

Sorrenti tweeted last week that Northern Irish police had arrived to her home after a livestream the day before because of another Swatting attempt.

Human rights groups like GLAAD have criticized KiwiFarms and Cloudflare.

“Cloudflare should take action against anti-trans bigotry and violence,” GLAAD tweeted last week using the “DropKiwiFarms” hashtag.

The Anti-Defamation League called KiwiFarms “an extremist-friendly forum”

A letter-writing campaign “increased pressure” on Cloudflare to withdraw KiwiFarms.

KiwiFarms scrambled to find another host when Cloudflare dropped it.

Saturday, Cloudflare blocked KiwiFarms. Prince explained his decision in a blog post, citing the “escalating pressure campaign” on KiwiFarms.

Joshua “Null” Moon, the operator of KiwiFarms, has defended the forum after outrage. Moon quoted this reporter’s pronouns in his email signature and wrote “LOL” in response to Insider’s questioning regarding Sorrenti’s campaign against the forum.

Moon made a comment on KiwiFarms’ Telegram account Monday stating he didn’t “see a circumstance where Kiwi Farms is simply permitted to continue” and that he was looking at other hosts but didn’t think they could handle the forum.

“It will either fragment like 8chan or move between hosts and domain names like Daily Stormer,” Moon stated.

Anti-bot service hCaptcha dropped KiwiFarms’ forum after Cloudflare.

Sorrenti has around 135,000 Twitter and 47,000 Twitch followers.

Sorrenti has posted daily updates regarding KiwiFarms and praised Cloudflare’s move to stop it.

“Thousands of people have stood up against online harassment and hate,” Sorrenti said in a #DropKiwiFarms statement after Cloudflare’s announcement.

Sorrenti later tweeted that she would celebrate for a day and then work to ban KiwiFams’ servers.

Tuesday afternoon, trying to access KiwiFarms brings up a blank page that states “Blocked” and links to Cloudflare’s blog on the decision.
