Kiwi baker ‘The Caker’ accuses Chrissy Teigen of copying ideas

Chrissy Teigen has been dubbed “The Faker” after a Kiwi baker by the name of The Caker claimed she plagiarized the artwork for the container of her new cake mix.

Owner of The Caker Jordan Rondel leveled the charge last week, one month after the couple unveiled a partnership for a spiced carrot cake mix that also included the star’s husband, John Legend.

Rondel, who is originally from New Zealand but now resides in Los Angeles, expressed her disbelief at how similar Teigen’s brand’s packaging was to her own.

She told Stuff.co.nz, “Even her little tale portion, where I tell where I have my story and then I sign it off with my signature, is the same, and then the way she expresses what you need and what you receive.”

“I do believe they have drawn a lot of inspiration from us. I definitely feel that a lot of inspiration has been stolen, to put it mildly.

“We’re just a small pinprick of a brand over here, but we’ve put everything we’ve got into developing a brand… But right now, I just feel like, “S***, that market is being stolen by someone else, and we’re just being shoved to the side.”

Now, Teigen is known as “The Faker” by The Caker’s followers, who claim that her work is an apparent rip-off of their creations. She is awful.

Rondel claimed to have been informed by Teigen that the cake mix she was introducing would be something completely different.

But when she saw the new Cravings boxes, both of which featured striking photography on a white backdrop with a hand engaging with the finished product, she was appalled.

The mix lineup, which includes Chrissy’s Ultimate Banana Bread Mix, Buttermilk Mochi Pancake and Waffle Mix, and Salted White Chocolate Macadamia Cookie Mix, was introduced by the model and TV personality on October 20.

Due to budgetary limitations, Rondel decided not to sue Teigen.

Additionally, she said that Cravings attempted to end their partnership by claiming that they had “found a new equity partner” and that the situation was now out of their hands.

Despite admitting she “didn’t originate the notion of a cake mix,” Rondel claimed she had worked hard to carve out a place with a “premium, enhanced cake mix.” The $25 cake mix is available at Rondel’s website.

I find it difficult to think she doesn’t have a voice in her own product line, the baker continued.

Sure, this is a little different situation if she is just unrelated, but I find that hard to believe. It’s strange how similar things are.

She originally shared a comparison of the designs with her 64,000 followers on Instagram, where she first voiced her worries.

In a statement to DailyMail.com, a Cravings representative vehemently refuted the allegations made about the baking mixes and said: “We are so proud of the now-sold-out Cravings x The Caker Spiced Carrot Cake Kit with Salted Caramel.”

‘The Caker’s recent social media postings and remarks on our goods are sad and unexpected.

The Caker crew was fully informed in May 2022 that Cravings will introduce a range of baking mixes after our one-time partnership.

Because The Caker decided to proceed with the carrot cake cooperation, Cravings decided to wait to release a cake mix and instead released banana bread, pancake, and cookie mixes on October 20th.

We under no circumstances copied their packaging. The real side-by-side images of our individual boxes are shown below.

The Caker crew compared pictures of the front and rear of their boxes on social media.

“The front of their packaging is distinct from the photographic approach we adopted, with their design tending to be a solid, strong color, which is essentially a sleeve instead of the conventional box type we have employed,” says the author.

The Caker and their company have our best wishes, and that is the driving force for our partnership and open lines of contact.

After establishing her mini-food empire in 2016 under the Cravings brand, Teigen started creating her own food items.

The model maintains a food blog, family cooking videos, and an online shop in addition to sharing her passion of food and recipes with her 38 million Instagram followers.

She had praised Rondel’s flourless dark chocolate gold leaf cake on Instagram in February, tagging The Caker in the article, and posted a picture of it half-eaten.

Rondel thanked Teigen in her response, tossing her the unlikely offer, and the two worked together.

Following Teigen’s posting of the two boxes side by side, Rondel’s supporters have not hesitated to criticize her.

She was called “The Faker” by one person, who later added, “It’s definitely a blatant rip off of your designs.” She is awful.

Another person said, “This is just very s*** and dishonorable of her!” Your cake kits and company are a thousand times superior than hers. You’re the true OG and the queen of cakes.

Some even made comments specifically directed at the Cravings Instagram account, asking: Didn’t you just announce a partnership for a related product with an independent, woman-owned business?

“Everything you collaborate on somehow becomes your own business opportunity to exploit and profit from,” a second person added. Yay! That is really humiliating.
