Royal Visit to Madley Primary School

During a visit to Madley Primary School in Hereford, the Princess of Wales and Prince William showcased their coordinated style, donning tailored grey jackets for the occasion. The Princess, aged 41, sported a £375 grey blazer from Maje, pairing it with black trousers and practical black walking boots. She styled her long brunette locks in her signature bouncy blow dry and opted for neutral makeup.

Madley Primary School prioritizes outdoor learning to enhance children’s physical and mental well-being. The royal couple visited the school’s Forest School, where Kate encountered a minor setback due to her taped-up fingers. She had injured herself while jumping on a trampoline with her three children earlier in the week, limiting her full participation in the outdoor activities.

During their visit, Prince William wore safety glasses and gloves as he sawed through a log, while the Princess, holding the log steady, had to decline the offer of gloves due to her bandaged hand.

The couple interacted with the students, engaged in various activities, and admired the skills they were learning. They witnessed the students burning the names of reception children onto sticks, which are used for daily registration. New starters and their parents receive wooden heart-shaped discs with the school motto, “Be the best you can be.”

The royal pair also joined pupils under a canopy made from a parachute, where they prepared apple, cinnamon, and sugar skewers to toast on a fire. The Princess expressed her enthusiasm for this outdoor cooking activity and mentioned trying it with her own children.

Madley Primary School integrates outdoor learning into its curriculum, teaching national curriculum subjects alongside environmental awareness, conservation, and woodland management. The school has five fully trained forest school leaders and partners with the Duchy of Cornwall, which provided the woodland site for outdoor education.

Following their visit to the school, the Prince and Princess planned to visit Kings Pitt Farm, where they would meet Duchy of Cornwall farming tenants Sam and Emily Stables. The couple would learn about the charity We Are Farming Minds, founded by Sam and Emily, which supports the mental health of farmers in rural communities.

The Duchy of Cornwall is collaborating with We Are Farming Minds to enhance its new Mental Health Strategy, offering mental health support to all its tenants, especially those in rural and isolated communities.

The visit to Madley Primary School allowed the royal couple to witness the positive impact of outdoor education and the importance of mental well-being support in rural communities.
