Kaizer Chiefs make a decision regarding a trialist!

Kaizer Chiefs are rumored to be watching a handful of prospects ahead of the January transfer window, after undergoing a significant rebuild during the summer transfer window.

Chiefs are known to have recently invited a large number of strikers to the club for trials, but among them was a defender named Bradley Cross.

ZWANE NEEDED LEFT-SIDED CENTRE BACK

Earlier in the season, Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane emphasized his team’s need for a left-footed central defender. This side of defense was deemed essential by ‘10111’ in order to help balance his team. It became immediately apparent that the coach had little confidence in the towering defender Austin Dube. Dube was the sole left-sided central defender on the club’s roster at the beginning of the season, but he has been consistently overlooked.

Edmilson Dove, a former left-sided defender for Cape Town City, was eventually recruited by Chiefs on a free transfer. The Mozambican international has now established himself as a regular starter alongside Zitha Kwinika on the left side of the Glamour Boy’s central defense combination.

CROSS WAS INVITED TO EVALUATE

In spite of this, Zwane and company invited South African junior international Cross to the club’s training facility for evaluations. It wasn’t long before reports began speculating that the former Newcastle United u23 captain may have impressed Chiefs, with the club said to be nearing an agreement with the player.

However, based on recent occurrences, it is extremely improbable that Cross will sign a contract with Chiefs. This comes after images of the player practicing with DStv Premiership rivals Maritzburg United recently leaked. After reports of his progress at Naturena had died down, he was sighted working hard for “The People’s Choice” versus Richards Bay FC in a recent friendly.

The Chiefs chose not to sign him.

It is currently unknown whether or not Maritzburg will be the team to sign the left-footed central defender Cross, since both SuperSport United and Chiefs have reportedly declined the chance to do so.
