In a significant achievement for the criminal justice system, four individuals responsible for a series of ram raids have been apprehended and sentenced.

The group, who are reported to have used actor Richard E Grant’s car in one of their raids, have caused substantial damage and losses amounting to £4.5 million.

Gang Members and Their Criminal Acts

The criminal group comprised William Connors, 29, Darren Eastaugh, 36, Anthony Rodwell, 33, and Sebastian Gnyp, 37.

They were all linked to numerous incidents where stolen high-end vehicles, such as Land Rovers and Range Rovers, were driven into commercial properties.

The assaults involved forcefully extracting cash machines, purloining jewelry, and thieving cash boxes before making their escape.

Ram Raid Modus Operandi

The brazen thefts were captured on CCTV, revealing the moments the stolen vehicles were reversed at high speeds into the storefronts.

After the initial vehicle impact, the thieves would rush in on foot to seize the valuable goods.

A notable occurrence involved actor Richard E Grant’s car, which was stolen and used for a raid on a Tesco Express in Hanworth, west London.

Grant publicly shared this ordeal on Twitter while in a quarantine hotel.

Court Proceedings and Confessions

During the hearing at Isleworth Crown Court, the four defendants confessed to their involvement in a total of 14 burglaries, 33 thefts, three attempted burglaries, and an attempted theft.

These crimes took place from 14 November 2021 to 19 August 2022, spanning locations in north and west London, Dorset, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Hampshire, and Berkshire.

Apprehension and Estimation of Losses

Three of the criminals were nabbed by Metropolitan Police officers during a cash box raid at an Esso petrol station and a Tesco Express outlet in Reading.

Gnyp, the fourth gang member, was arrested the following month as detectives gathered conclusive evidence.

According to Scotland Yard, the total value of the thefts and resulting damage exceeded £3 million.

Furthermore, businesses that were forced to close for repairs suffered losses nearing £1.5 million.

Sentencing of the Gang Members

In the sentencing on Thursday, Connors and Eastaugh received six and a half years in prison each.

Rodwell was sentenced to five years and ten months, while Gnyp received a three-year sentence.

Detective Constable Pippa Bregazzi, from the Met’s Flying Squad, noted the ruthlessness of their crimes and expressed relief that they will be spending a considerable period in jail.
