Just Stop Oil Continues Disruptive Protests in London, Demands End to Fossil Fuels

…By Larry John for TDPel Media.

Climate activist group, Just Stop Oil, has continued their disruptive protests for a fifth consecutive day in London, causing traffic blockages on Uxbridge Road in Ealing and Putney, and Mile End Road in east London.

The Metropolitan Police issued a statement warning that if the protestors did not vacate the area, Section 12 Public Order conditions would be enforced.

Police were quick to engage with the protestors and minimise disruption to Londoners.

The protests come a day after new laws were introduced by Suella Braverman to stop the slow-walking tactic that is frequently used by Just Stop Oil to disrupt the traffic.

Just Stop Oil’s spokesperson stated that they would not be deterred by changes to protest laws or how strongly the police enforce those laws.

The group is composed of activists from various organisations such as Extinction Rebellion and Insulate Britain.

Just Stop Oil aims to stop new fossil-fuel licensing and production and is against new oil and gas projects.

While the group’s tactics of social disruption have been criticised for blocking roads and vandalism, they have continued to demand that the UK government put an end to fossil fuels and invest in renewable energy.

Just Stop Oil has warned that their protests will continue until their demands are met.

The group’s funding for recruitment, training, capacity building, and education primarily comes from the Climate Emergency Fund, a US network set up in 2019 to fund climate activism.

Just Stop Oil’s disruptive protests have received mixed reactions from the public.

While some support the group’s goal of putting an end to fossil fuels and investing in renewable energy, others are angered by the disruptions caused by their protest tactics.

The fact that the group has garnered so much attention in such a short period of time shows the growing concern and urgency surrounding climate change.

It remains to be seen whether their actions will lead to meaningful change and a shift in the UK’s energy policies.
