John Moeti, former captain of the Orlando Pirates, succumbs to sickness

John Moeti, the former captain of the Orlando Pirates, died at home after a lengthy illness.

In a statement released on Monday, the Bafana Bafana legend’s family revealed that he has been getting specialized medical care for the previous eight months.

“It is with profound sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we inform you of John “Dungi” Moeti’s passing,” the family said.

Monday early morning, Dungi, as Moeti was popularly known, died to his sickness. “John passed away in the early hours of this morning [February 6] at home, surrounded by his family and brothers in prayer.

“We greatly appreciate your prayers and unwavering support. The family requests privacy at this time of mourning. Funeral information will be released in due time.”

Moeti, 55, who previously played for SuperSport United, won 29 caps and scored one goal for the South African national team from 1995 to 1999.
