Clubs will observe a moment of quiet in honor of the famous John Moeti

This week, all Nedbank Cup and DStv Diski Challenge matches will observe a moment of silence in honor of the renowned John “Dungi” Moeti.

The former Orlando Pirates captain passed away at his home on Monday morning after a lengthy illness.

He was a key member of both the 1995 Bucs squad that won the CAF Champions League and the 1996 Bafana Bafana squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations.

After being released by the Buccaneers, Moeti finished his career with SuperSport United.

The Premier Soccer League extended condolences to the Moeti family and the broader football community.

The internationally renowned female referee of the South African Football Association (Safa), Akhona Makalima, praised football fans for giving the late match official Moeketsi Molelekoa a suitable send-off.

Molelekoa, who died in a car accident in January, was laid to rest this past weekend in Botshabelo, Bloemfontein.

“Football officials gave our brother, friend, and colleague a truly dignified send-off, and for that I would like to thank the numerous match officials, Safa officials, and people from all walks of life who attended his funeral,” said Makalima.

She stated that while it was heartbreaking to lose Molelekoa at such a young age, she took solace in the fact that so many people attended his funeral and commemorated his brief, but fruitful life.
