JMPD Sergeant assists a woman in Northcliff to give birth

On Wednesday, 1 February 2023, a Sergeant from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) assisted a mother in Northcliff to deliver a healthy baby girl on a street corner.

JMPD Operations officers, led by Sergeant Connie Nkuna, were on patrol when they were contacted by a member of the public. He reported that a woman was in labor in Northcliff at the intersection of Milner and Beyers Naude Drives.

Xolani Fihla, a spokesperson for the JMPD, stated that the police rushed to the woman. After assessing the situation, Nkuna instructed her coworkers to seek aid from paramedics at the Roosevelt Fire Station.

This mother named her child Blessing because a Metro police officer assisted her as she went into labor on a Northcliff street corner.

While she awaited aid, the woman went into full labor. The infant was delivered with the assistance of Sergeant Nkuna, an onlooker, and the mother’s sister. The woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl shortly before the arrival of the paramedics.

According to Fihla, the woman was on her way to the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Coronationville. She went into labor shortly after exiting a taxi.

The mother and infant were evacuated by paramedics to Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital upon their arrival at the scene.
“An ambulance transported the mother and healthy newborn girl to Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, where they were both observed and subsequently discharged.” After Sergeant Nkuna stated that the baby’s birth was a blessing, the mother picked the name Blessing for her daughter.

Sergeant Nkuna was just promoted and serving her first day in Region B, Randburg, when she assisted a woman giving birth on a street corner.

Sergeant Nkuna is commended by the JMPD’s acting chief of police, Angie Mokasi, for going above and beyond the call of duty by assisting the distraught mother in giving delivery while serving the city with the utmost pride and devotion.
