Trey Wingo, a former host for ESPN’s “NFL Live,” alleged on Twitter that the Jets and Aaron Rodgers had conversations.

Rodgers, the longtime Packers quarterback, has been the subject of trade rumours since the offseason began.

Although NFL free agency does not officially open until March 15, Brian Costello of The Post noted that it “would mean GB [Green Bay] gave the Jets permission to speak with Rodgers, or it would be tampering.”

Rodgers, who recently completed his 18th season with the Packers, has been heavily linked to the Jets.

The organization has already engaged in preliminary discussions with Green Bay should the quarterback become available via trade. However, as of last week, Rodgers had not relayed his intentions to Green Bay regarding plans.

Should Rodgers and the Packers part ways, Green Bay believes they are in good hands with 24-year-old quarterback Jordan Love, whom the team drafted in 2020.

Rodgers appears to be at the top of the Jets’ list in their search for a veteran quarterback following Zach Wilson’s continued struggles in his second season.

Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr also met with the Jets, but he signed a four-year, $150 million deal with the Saints on Monday.
