– Cape Town Jermaine Seoposenwe, who is based in Mexico, will lead the Banyana Banyana attack in their historic international friendly against Australia at the Kingsmeadow Stadium in London on Saturday afternoon.
The national women’s teams of Australia and South Africa will play each other for the first time.
Australia and New Zealand will jointly host the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup.
Seoposenwe, who was born in Cape Town, has become a phenomenon in Liga MX Femenil, the top women’s football league in Mexico.
She scored twice for FC Juárez in a domestic encounter a few days ago. Her first goal was scored just nine seconds into the contest, making it the fastest goal ever scored in Mexican women’s football.
The form of Seoposenwe bodes well for Banyana, who sorely need to step up their game after being thrashed by Brazil in two friendlies on home soil last month. The 54th-ranked defending African champions lost by scores of 3-0 and 6-0.
Australia are rated 12th, and Banyana will be absent this time. Australia are also absent, but they are in London as part of their preparations for the World Cup.
They have numerous players competing in the English women’s league, which removes the need for long-distance travel.
Banyana’s technical team has attempted to strengthen the squad by releasing veterans such as Janine van Wyk, Nomvula Kgoale, Lebo Ramalepe, and Kaylin Swart.
These players were members of the national team that won this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) in Morocco.
Other players, including Thembi Kgatlana, Noko Matlou, and Noxolo Cesane, were unavailable due to injuries, visa issues, and school obligations, respectively.
Saturday’s encounter, according to Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis, will allow the technical team to evaluate more players and build a stronger squad.
“I told the players from the outset that attending Wafcon did not guarantee qualification for the World Cup,” stated Ellis.
“The World Cup is a unique competition, and everyone must raise their hand.
There are numerous players who have demonstrated form, and we must also consider them so they can compete at the greatest level.
