Jaguar TCS Racing ready for Formula E Mexico City

Jaguar TCS Racing will begin its 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship campaign on Saturday, January 14, in Mexico City, which will host the season opener and first race of the Gen3 era.

At 2:00 p.m. local time at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodrguez, the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 will make its racing debut as the all-electric racing series enters the Gen3 era, which includes new technical, sporting, and financial standards. The new race car from Jaguar is the quickest, lightest, and most fuel-efficient to date.

Mitch Evans and Sam Bird, two seasoned drivers for Jaguar TCS Racing, will put the new car through its paces and compete against twenty other drivers. Mitch Evans won the race in 2020, and Sam Bird has finished on the podium and amassed strong points totals on previous visits to the venue. This year, the drivers will have to demonstrate their abilities on the stadium’s now-famous long straights, tough bends, and new chicane section.

In contrast to the previous season, when the race was determined by a predetermined length of time, drivers will now compete throughout 36 laps of the racetrack.

This iconic circuit, located in the heart of Mexico City, is one of the most exciting racing destinations for the 2023 season, with the 2018 E-Prix attracting a record-breaking audience of over 40,000 spectators.

In the ninth season, the team will compete on the Mexico City track for the sixth time, aiming for consistent points and podiums. On 25 February 2023, the squad will also travel to Cape Town, South Africa, for the fifth round of the Championship.

QUOTES
“We had a really successful year in 2022 with numerous highlights, but we almost missed the top spot. This has provided the team with even more impetus to contend for the Team and Driver crowns in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship this season. With our seasoned staff, Mitch and Sam, and the brand-new Gen3 Jaguar I-TYPE 6, we’re sure to have a thrilling season against world-class competition. With so much to learn about the new Gen3 vehicles, new race format, and Hankook tires, this first race in Mexico will be about being as prepared as possible and adaptable.”

“Last season was my most successful in Formula E, so I’m leveraging that energy to launch this season and concentrate on earning a positive result in the opening race. I have wonderful memories of winning in Mexico City in 2020, therefore I am eager for a strong season opener.”

“I can’t wait to return to the track in Mexico City, particularly since we anticipate a fantastic crowd. There is no thrill comparable to hearing the cheers of the audience via my helmet. I’m prepared to put on a show and get the season off to the best start possible.”

“It is always a pleasure to race in the capital of Mexico. The crowd is constantly in good spirits, and the atmosphere in the stadium section is quite unique. In addition, the crew is delighted to watch the Gen3 cars compete for the first time. While ambient temperatures are not expected to be exceptionally high for this visit, the installation of the chicane on the back straight means that the tyres don’t have much chance to cool down throughout the lap. The final turn is also one of the most challenging high-speed turns we encounter all season. Therefore, configurations, systems, and drivers must be in perfect harmony for success in Mexico City.”
