Friday, the Supreme Court of New South Wales issued a two-year extended supervision order for Moudasser Taleb, who was released from Silverwater jail on December 9.

In granting this order, Justice Dina Yehia cited the 27-year-history old’s of disobedience, including the acquisition of a double-barreled shotgun in breach of a guns ban order.

After two years in custody, Taleb was released and placed on a five-year good behaviour bond to allow the felon, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, a chance at rehabilitation

She added, “The imposition of an ESO would permit comprehensive supervision of the offender aimed at mitigating the likelihood that he may conduct a significant terrorism offense.”

In June of 2019, a jury found the Bankstown man guilty of plotting a trip from Sydney to Syria to participate in hostile actions in support of Islamic State.

After being found guilty, he delivered the Islamic State’s one-finger salute.

After his release from prison, Moudasser Taleb, who wanted to fight for ISIS in Syria, will be closely monitored for two years.

Two years prior, Taleb was caught at Sydney International Airport by undercover police with a backpack containing military apparel, a sleeping bag, tactical gloves, a solar charger, and other equipment.

He also had far over 200 videos on his phone, some of which depicted beheadings, people with ISIS flags, and battlegrounds.

Taleb, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, was released from prison and placed on a five-year good behavior bond to give him a shot at recovery.

In April 2021, Taleb was reincarcerated when a loaded sawn-off double-barreled shotgun and shotgun ammunition were discovered in his residence.

He is also prohibited from transferring money overseas or giving or receiving more than $1,000 without the police’s authorization. The Bankstown man will be required to surrender his passport and will be prohibited from leaving NSW without authorization.

There are restrictions on what Taleb can do online and with whom he can associate, and he is prohibited from engaging in terrorist acts or obtaining extremist literature.

In addition, he must participate in psychological or mental therapy and take any medications prescribed by healthcare providers.

The State of New South Wales initially requested in its case that Taleb remain in detention for a further year. Later, it gave up on obtaining these more rigorous orders.
